Founded in 1977, The Chinese University of Hong Kong Press is a leading bilingual publisher specializing in China studies. We are seeking an Acquisition Editor to expand our titles in Chinese classics, history, literature, religion, medical history, anthropology, political science, and more.
The appointee will be responsible for (a) acquiring and transmitting 15 - 20 book manuscripts annually; (b) soliciting and evaluating proposals and manuscripts; (c) engaging outside readers for peer review; (d) making recommendations to the publishing committees; (e) assisting authors with revisions and preparation of final manuscripts, and negotiating contracts; and (f) collaborating with colleagues to develop publishing and marketing plans.
Applicants should have (i) a Master's degree with 4 years' relevant full-time work experience in a scholarly publishing environment; OR a PhD degree in a relevant academic field; (ii) an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; (iii) enthusiasm for publishing; and (iv) strong communication and multitasking skills. Having relevant experience in acquiring excellent books is preferred.
Appointment will initially be made on a 1-year contract, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
